ImTOO DVD to iPod Suite is a great choice for those non-first timers in the video conversion world; providing excellent features that allow customization of every aspect of the conversion process. If you want to fill your iPod with your videos and want to personalize everything from quality to size, then this suite is for you.
Feature Set (5/5)
The ImTOO DVD to iPod Suite lets any user unleash the power of the iPod, being capable to take virtually any video file as source and generating optimized high quality output iPod files.
The suite can process any standard DVDs, AVI files (including DivX), VCDs, SVCDs, QuickTime MOV files, RM files, 3GP files, Windows Media Video files (WMV) and MPEG-encoded files (MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4), and that’s just for video. It also supports the conversion of audio-only files, like AAC, WMA (Windows Media Audio), M4A, OGG (Vorbis), MP2, MP3, AC3, RA and RAM files.
The resulting output can also encoded in different formats, like MPEG-4 and MOV for iPod videos (up to 640×480 resolution) and MP3 and M4A for iPod audio.
All supported encoders are built into the suite, so there is no need to download any codec separately.
Both standard single-file mode and batch mode offer a superb conversion speed. Settings can be fully changed at will, a feature that power users will appreciate very much.
The output audio and video qualities are outstanding even with the default settings, and can be substantially improved by “touching and tweaking”.
The ImTOO DVD to iPod suite also supports converting small chunks of the source videos, and in case of DVD discs, the conversion can be performed by chapter.
Ease Of Use (5/5)
Both experienced and beginner iPod lovers will find the ImTOO DVD to iPod suite extremely easy to use, although advanced users will be able to get the most out of this software package.
Due to the on-screen options panel, the conversion settings can be adjusted (and some even previewed), without leaving the main screen, thus eliminating the need to browse through the available menus just to find a single tweak.
And, in case you don’t want to change any settings by yourself, the suite comes with various optimized profiles to choose from (there is even one of those profiles that is fully optimized for new 30G/80G iPods).
Every task can be performed with a single mouse click, and the application is easy to understand and use from the very first time it is run.
Ease Of Installation And Setup (5/5)
This suite was seamlessly installed in testing computers with no difficult at all. Just like any other windows software, just run it, follow the simple instructions and that’s it.
Quality Of Copy (5/5)
The ImTOO DVD to iPod Suite has shown amazing encoding capabilities, generating outstanding quality iPod video files that are incredibly small.
To be fair, we couldn’t compare this suite against others on older computers, due to its 750+ MHz CPU requirements. But, when running under the same hardware configuration, we found the ImTOO DVD to iPod suite to be an equally or slightly more accurate converter than most of its competitors.
Software Stability (4/5)
The ImTOO DVD to iPod Suite has performed reliably under different configurations, but when running on systems with the bare minimum required hardware and software, the system hanged up a couple of times. That happened always when starting the conversion process, which suggests it has to do with encoding. It is recommended that you lower output quality when working on low-resource systems.
Also, the Video Converter generated an illegal operation and closed itself when we deliberately selected a corrupted MPEG-2 file as input, although this happened only once and did not happen again after rebooting.
